“Conserving Nature for the Future”
Promoting the co-existence of communities nature for sustainable improvement of well-being, household income, and self-driven development that builds on identity, tradition, and beliefs surrounding Mt. Rwenzori.
Our Commitment to Nature
At People and Nature Rwenzori Mountain (PANR), our mission is to enhance the living conditions of local communities while promoting sustainable development. Since our founding in 2016, we have been dedicated to creating positive changes that uplift the lives of those residing in the Rwenzori region. We collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, local organisations, and community leaders, to improve service delivery and strengthen the capacities of vulnerable groups, ensuring that everyone has a voice in decision-making processes.
Recognising the critical intersections between agriculture, climate change, and environmental sustainability, we actively engage in initiatives that support sustainable agricultural practices. Our programmes focus on training farmers in techniques such as organic farming, beekeeping, crop rotation, coffee value addition, clean energy, youth skilling and agroforestry, which not only enhance food security but also restore fertility to the soil. By promoting practices that reduce dependency on chemical fertilisers and pesticides, we help protect local ecosystems and biodiversity.
In addition to agricultural training, we work on community-led projects aimed at conserving natural resources, such as reforestation, clean water and menstrual hygiene management. Through these initiatives, we empower communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change, promoting environmental stewardship and resilience. Our educational campaigns focus on raising awareness about the importance of conserving ecosystems and using resources sustainably, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the rich natural heritage of the Rwenzori region.
We also prioritise the involvement of women and youth in our programs, recognising their vital roles in promoting sustainable development. By providing targeted training and access to resources, we aim to foster economic opportunities that empower these groups, leading to greater equity within communities.
Join us in improving lives while nurturing the environment. Together, we can build a resilient future for both people and ecosystems in the Rwenzori region, ensuring that development goes hand-in-hand with the preservation of our precious natural resources.

Who We Are
People and Nature Rwenzori Mountain (PANR) was founded in 2016 to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods and development of underserved communities in the hard-to-live/stay and hard-to-reach rural villages on and around Mt. Rwenzori through five (5) main thematic programs: 1. Sustainable agriculture, 2. Formal education and skills development, 3. Environment conservation and natural resource management, 4. Improving health awareness and health services, 5. Peace and Human Rights. PANR is registered with Kasese District Local Government, Department of Community Development Services as a community-based organisation (CBO) registered at a national level, and it’s registered with the NGO Bureau in Uganda
CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Global efforts to curb emissions are falling short of the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target. Achieving this limit necessitates immediate and transformative climate action across all sectors of society. Without swift intervention, the consequences will be severe.
The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident, impacting agriculture through shifting weather patterns that reduce crop yields and increase food insecurity. This threatens farmers' livelihoods and burdens global food systems, leading to potential price hikes and malnutrition.
Health risks are also rising, with higher temperatures causing more heat-related illnesses and disease spread, particularly affecting vulnerable populations in low-income areas.
Extreme weather events, such as floods, hurricanes, and wildfires, damage critical infrastructure, disrupt essential services, and strain health systems. The provision of basic services—including clean water, education, and transportation—faces increasing jeopardy, affecting quality of life and social stability.
In summary, urgent climate action is critical. We must mobilize resources, innovate sustainable practices, and collaborate globally to mitigate climate change impacts and safeguard our planet for future generations. Time is of the essence for transformative action.

Our Services
Supporting communities through sustainable practices like tree planting, beekeeping, and agriculture.

By promoting agroforestry and educating farmers on sustainable forestry practices, we help communities cultivate lasting sources of food, fuel, and income. Reforestation isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about rebuilding ecosystems, revitalising cultures, and restoring opportunity.
Beekeeping
Promoting sustainable beekeeping practices to support livelihoods and environmental health.
Coffee Farming
Empowering farmers with sustainable coffee farming techniques for better yields and income.
Tree Planting
Promoting menstrual health and hygiene is an important means for safeguarding women’s dignity, privacy, bodily integrity, and, consequently, their self-efficacy.
Ensuring access to clean drinking water and promoting improved cooking methods enhances health and well-being in communities
Menstrual Health and Hygiene
Clean Drinking Water and Improved Cooking
By integrating innovative techniques such as crop rotation, improved irrigation methods, and the use of resilient crop varieties, CSA seeks to optimize yields, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the resilience of agricultural systems.
Climate-smart agriculture
By increasing green cover, trees grown in nurseries, once grown, can combat urban heat, reduce soil erosion, and provide habitats for wildlife.
Nursery bed management
Nature-based solutions.
Restoring wetlands, reforesting areas, and promoting sustainable agriculture, NbS not only improve environmental conditions but also provide economic opportunities and enhance the resilience of communities.
